CHAPTER FIVE

The Land of the Young

When we lose someone we love it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence . a quiet sadness . A longing for one more day . one more word . one more touch . We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say goodbye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. We will see you again some day in a heavenly place where there is no parting. A place where there are no words that mean goodbye.

Never are we more in need of spiritual guidance, comfort and healing than when a loved one dies and we find ourselves staring death in the face. Nothing brings more focus than the shadow of death. People who have never believed in angels find themselves wondering if there is an afterlife, or if their loved ones live on in the afterlife. And then there are those who have always believed in an afterlife but find doubts creep in when death, the great unknown, approaches. Once again we can learn so much here from Celtic souls. As the stories you will read here show, they don’t believe in death – because they know better.

Beautiful and alive

There is little doubt that the ancient Celts believed in an afterlife. In chapters two and three you saw how they believed the spirits of departed loved ones were always close by. Everything in this land was said to be beautiful, bright, alive and colourful. It was called the Land of the Young because in this paradise the ageing process is reversed, so the youngest are the wisest. Time has no meaning and everyone’s soul longs for this wonderful place, which is more like a dream world than a land for the dead.

The Land of the Young reminds us of the close association that exists between children and heaven. Like all those who see the world with angel eyes, children don’t believe death exists either, and I have received many letters and read many reports from all over the world that talk about children who see angels prior to death, whether they are dying themselves or witnessing or hearing about the death of someone else.

Celtic souls share with children this clear awareness that the grave is not the place where those who have died remain. Like children they don’t have inhibiting barriers of fear and are willing to suspend their disbelief and trust what they feel and see. Sometimes they are able to tell us what heaven looks like, but more often than not they catch glimpses of a world of brightness far more beautiful and alive than this one. They talk of miraculous
